25th November 2015 marks the 10 year anniversary of the Office of the Auditor General’s performance auditing. Conducted in adherence to the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAIs), performance audit seeks to assess the economy, effectiveness and efficiency aspects of government agencies and programs with the end goal being value-addition.
Pioneered in 2005 by Mrs. Goretti Ingabire and Mr. Rwabigwi Jean Claude, performance audit within OAG has steadily grown over the years and now boasts of 15 skilled staff members who are multi-disciplinary by profession; accountants, statisticians, environmentalists and economists.
Over the years, the Auditor General Mr. Obadiah Biraro has tirelessly worked to foster and cement international relations with several countries within the region, continent and overseas. Notably the cooperation with the Netherlands Court of Audit, the Swedish National Audit Office and the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) who have provided invaluable technical assistance that has made it possible for the sustained growth and development of performance audit in the country.
Thanks to the Auditor General Mr. Biraro and the entire performance audit team for audit engagements in health, agriculture, education, social, environmental and public infrastructure sectors have been conducted successfully and reports published In the last decade.
